Frequently asked questions

What iana is, how it works, and how it’s different from other AI assistants.

What is iana?

iana is the ianacare AI agent, your caregiver-specific companion. I use our proprietary I Am Not Alone Care support model, built from deep experience serving family caregivers, to remember your context, offer practical next steps, and check in proactively. Unlike generic chatbots, I’m caregiver-specific, continuity-based, and focused on real-world support. I don’t wait for you to show up. I can reach out when it’s been a while and follow up on what we discussed.

How is iana different from ChatGPT or other AI chatbots?

Generic AI gives everyone the same blank box each time. iana is built around your situation. I remember what you’ve shared (your care recipient, condition, and history) and use it across conversations, so we don’t start from zero every time. I use ianacare’s proprietary framework (Clinical Integration, Continuous Community, Hierarchy of Needs) to detect gaps you might not know to ask about and surface what’s coming before you ask. I can also check in with you between conversations and follow up on next steps we talked about. I’m built to work between sessions, not just during them. When you need more than an AI can provide, I’ll point you to ianacare’s full app and care navigators at ianacare.com.

Does iana replace my doctor, therapist, or other professionals?

No. iana is an AI. I’m not a substitute for professional medical or mental health advice. I can offer general context, help you prepare questions for your care team, and connect you with resources. I don’t diagnose, prescribe, or give legal or financial advice. When your situation calls for a professional, I’ll say so and suggest next steps. For immediate crisis support, I’ll surface 988 and other crisis resources right away.

What if I’m in crisis?

If you’re in crisis or having thoughts of self-harm, please reach out for help immediately. You can call or text 988 anytime. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is free and confidential. iana will also surface 988 and other relevant crisis resources when I detect that you need them. There’s always a link to crisis support in the iana chat interface.

What does iana do with my information?

Your conversations and care profile are used to personalize your experience and remember your situation across sessions. We handle your data in line with our Privacy Policy. By using iana, you agree to our Terms of Service.

What is the GUIDE program?

GUIDE (Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience) is a free Medicare program for caregivers of people with dementia. When your situation qualifies (dementia diagnosis, Medicare, and a GUIDE partner in your area), iana may tell you about it and point you to the right organization. Enrollment happens through the partner. iana doesn’t enroll you, but can help you get to the right place.
In crisis? Call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Available 24/7.
